Alba D’Urbano

Alba D' Urbano was born in 1955 in Tivolo/Rome. She first studied philosophy at the La Sapienza University in Rome and afterwards art at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome.
In 1984 she joined the HdK Berlin and studied Visual communication. It was followed by teaching at the Institut für Neue Medien, Frankfurt and at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach.
In 1995, she was invited to the Chair for computer graphics at the Academy of graphic arts in Leipzig. Since 1998 she holds the leadership of the class for Intermedia at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig. Alba D' Urbano lives and works in Leipzig.
As an artist she exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in Germany and abroad since 1984. Her works are represented in many public collections such as Gutenberg Museum, Mainz; Dresden Bank, Munich; collection of the Gallery of contemporary art in Termoli (I); Deutsche Bank, Darmstadt; ZKM Karlsruhe or at the Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin.
Alba D' Urbano traces conceptions of individuality and technique in her works by relating people, individuals, media and technologically in her objects and installations. Consistently she uses contemporary forms of expression to analyze and to reflect them critically.
In 2007 she was exhibited together with Tina Bara in the Galleria Stefania Miscetti, Rome (I) and at the Galerie Fotohof in Salzburg (A) and was involved on various group exhibitions such as in the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum, Lafayette, LA (United States); Kaohsiung Museum of fine art, Kaihsiung (TW); Museum of contemporary art, Taipei (TW and Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea della Repubblica di San Marino (SM).
