Hannelore Landrock-Schumann

Conceptual, Concrete, Painting, Art with Architecture

Hannelore Landrock-Schumann, born 1950 in Essen, studied graphic and liberal arts at the Folkwangschule. In 1981, she presented her first space work "Der Umzug" at the Galerie Schüppenhauer in Essen-Kettwig.

Since completing her studies, the search after a dimension that points beyond the media she learned at the Folkwangschule - painting, drawing and graphics - exists immanent in the works by Hannelore Landrock-Schumann. This geared a creative development process, which doesn't skip over any stage and in which the following naturally resulting from the previous.

Her works are a mirror of her personality, her experiences and her thinking. Rarely art historical fallbacks can be found in her works, rather the realization, that the poetry lies in the things themselves and that one can turn them through small interventions into art. That has not changed since her lyrical beginning up to her art with architecture.

In Hannelore Landrock Schumann's overarching space installations, the architectural peculiarities of the area serve as a starting point. Through her interventions with the help of light and color, spaces will appear deprived of their former clarity and size, functionally selected area sections ermerge as disruptive factors. But the entirely new view doesn't destroy the given space, but allows a conscious perception of the daily overlooked things and draws the attention to the fundamental nature of our environment.
