Vera Röhm

Conceptual, Concrete, Photography, Drawing, Sculpture, Art with Architecture

Vera Röhm was born in 1943 in Landsberg/Lech and grew up in Geneva and Darmstadt. She currently lives in Darmstadt and Paris.

From 1961-1967, she studied at the Académie Charpentier, Paris and the École cantonale d'art Lausanne. Residencies in New York, New Mexico, and California followed.

In 1969 her first plastic works arise in Paris. Since 1975, Vera Röhm deals with the material additions wood and plastic . The dramatic art of wood fraction with its splinterings is visible through the combination of the contrasting materials wood and acrylic glass. The clear, constructive forms of rods, angles, steles evolve different perspectives and suspenseful refractions and establish fascinating insights. The contrasting combination of nature and technology, of free form and strict construction give the objects a conspicuous presence.

In 1977, she developped photographic works on canvas as the series of "Stützwerk".

Since the mid 80's, Vera Röhm deals with the phenomenon of time and space and to visualize these intellectual, physical and cosmic States in her artistic work. Texts, photographs, drawings, sculptures and installations arise on this topic under the top title "topography of the time".

With these different media, the artist succeeds in fixing time as a snapshot of her movement by taking advantage of the light and the shadow play of the Sun, to materialize the shadow of a solid body in the course of the day as a space object. She uses accurate methods of surveying. Precisely because of the often minimalist rigor of forms, these works possess a high degree of poetry.

Since 1985, Vera Röhm is exhibiting in numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries in the country and abroad.

In 2007 her works were shown in the 34th annual exhibition of the Darmstadt Sezession, Mathildenhöhe; "FLOWING TIMES" a group exhibition by SAKAMOTOandfriends and our Gallery, also in "Les rêves du Château», Château de Nyon (CH)," Messures de L'ombre "in the Fondation Ledig-Rowohlt, Lavigny/CH and until the end of 2007 in «Livres Fous», Centre Artistique de Verderonne, Manoir you Boulanc (F)."

She was rewarded with two prices: the Darmstadt art Prize in 1997 and in 2003 the Johann-Heinrich-Merck-Ehrung, Darmstadt.

Vera Röhm's works are represented in many private and public collections, for example at the Allianz building in Berlin. She realized several projects in public space, for example the courthouse, Göttingen, the Fraunhofer Institute, Darmstadt and the LZB, Iserlohn. At last the "Himmelsachse" (celestial axis) was installed at the square "Am Theater", through the Sculpture Museum Glaskasten Marl.
